Grandpa, I Hear You!

I was on youtube minding my own damn business and all of a sudden I see the suggestion for: Grandpa, tell me about the good ole days sung by the Judds and I felt like I couldn’t breathe for a moment. This was mine and grandpa’s song since I was a very small child singing in my little red rocking chair. I couldn’t ignore it. I hear you grandpa and I miss you too more than words can say. Maybe he wanted a spot in tonight’s blogging too. He taught me many things: Never run when walking will due, always wash your hands before dinner (because he would check and it was good for a quarter bet!), mind your manners, and strength of character. He always had a special talent for always appearing when I needed him. Clearly he has not lost his touch since he passed away in 2006.

Grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
Sometimes it feels like this worlds gone crazy
Grandpa, take me back to yesterday
When the line between right and wrong
Didn’t seem so hazy

Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away
Oh, grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days

Grandpa, everything is changing fast
We call it progress, but I just don’t know
And grandpa, let’s wander back into the past
And paint me the picture of long ago

Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other come what may
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say and then forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away
Oh, grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
Oh, grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
